Who can apply through the Simplified Renewal Application Process?

Canadians living in Canada or in the United States who were at least 16 years of age when they applied for their last passport and who hold a five-year passport that was issued in Canada (indicated under "Issuing Authority" on page 2 of the submitted passport) can apply through the Simplified Renewal Application Process, provided the following criteria are met:

  • The passport must have been issued within the last six years.
  • The name on the application form must be exactly the same as the name on the submitted passport.
  • The passport must not be damaged and must never have been reported lost or stolen.

Canadians living in the United States may apply through the Simplified Renewal Application Process by mail or in person at a Passport Canada service location in Canada.

Canadians living abroad cannot apply through the Simplified Renewal Application Process unless they do so in person at a Passport Canada service location in Canada AND pick up the passport in person in Canada.
