Passport Canada is an autonomous organization that is required to generate sufficient revenues to cover its expenses. Generally speaking, it receives no appropriations from Parliament. Passport Canada's services are funded by the user rather than the taxpayer.
The fee for an adult passport is CAN$87. Of this amount, CAN$25 is used to recover the costs incurred by the Department of Foreign Affairs in providing consular services to Canadians abroad.
